The word ‘Karaoke’ was coined in Japan; it is a combination of Japanese words meaning ‘empty’ and ‘orchestra’. This was conceived by a drummer known as Daisuke Inoue who invented a machine to which you could sing along to. This word is not only listed in the Japanese dictionaries but has also paved its way into the Oxford English Dictionary.
