Live Responsibly; the Do’s and Don’ts of Alcohol Consumption

Life is all about breaking away from the daily routine, experiencing a good time and keeping your spirits high; however, this doesn’t come without the responsibility to do it all right. So whether it is celebration, a festival, or any other occasion denoting good times, it is recommended to keep monitoring yourself while you indulge in unrestrained revelry. Here is list of occasions were you should think twice before picking up that beer or a glass of wine.

Underage drinking

Well, this is certainly illegal and you are required to follow the basic code of conduct, especially when you are underage. The legal drinking age in India is about 21 years (beer) and above (for hard liquor). Consuming alcohol has some negative effects that play a detrimental role in the development of an adolescent brain; therefore, it is advisable to abstain from it to avoid self-destructive behavior, addiction and an eventual abusive behavior towards other people. Drinking is a recreational activity for adults, it isn’t meant to be consumed during times of distress or to alter moods. So keep that in mind.

While driving

The effects of alcohol are many; one of them being that it reduces inhibitions and the eventual decline in cognitive abilities. Your vision may suffer and you might undergo fatigue, resulting in an accident. Also, it is a punishable offense if you drink and drive. So please be careful.

During office hours

No organisation will tolerate an employee who is not in his/her senses. Of course, every organisation requires its employee to devote his/her concentration in entirety resulting in maximum productivity. The effects of alcohol are not exactly ideal for any office environment, unless you are a part of the organisation party where you can unwind from the daily grinding tasks. Alcohol reduces reflexes and interrupts with your motor skills; therefore is absolutely dangerous to consume while at work.

During medical treatments or pregnancy

It is absolutely necessary for you to consult your doctor before consuming any form of alcohol if you are undergoing a medical treatment. Alcohol has a tendency to interrupt with the medicines involved; therefore, it may hamper your recovery or may result in other negative or harmful effects.

Also, if you are pregnant, it is advisable to avoid consuming liquor of any kind due to the negative impact it may have on the foetus. The negative impacts may range from mental retardation or underdevelopment.

While exercising

Avoid alcohol during times of distress or when undergoing a physically taxing activity. This is because the various effects of alcohol also involve stress and an increased pulse rate that hampers with your ability to further exert yourself (during exercising).

All said and done, alcohol should not turn into a habit or an addiction; it is only meant to be consumed responsibly by adults. So take care and drink responsibly!
